Government energy strategies vague, says opposition

Opposition parties have criticised the Government's energy strategies saying they set ambitious goals without any plan to achieve them.

The Government has released drafts of its Energy Strategy and

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy for public consultation.

The drafts update the former Labour government's strategies, released in 2007, with the National Government's policy priorities.

The Energy Strategy retains Labour's goal of having 90% of electricity generation from renewable sources by 2025.

Labour's environment spokesperson, Charles Chauvel, says there are no details of how that will be achieved.

The Green Party describes the documents as vague and waffly.
