Prime Minister John Key is adamant his position on KiwiBank has not changed, despite no longer ruling out the possibility of selling the bank.
And he rejected suggestions his view on KiwiBank has changed.
Before the election Mr Key promised that KiwiBank would never be sold but on Wednesday indicated to Parliament it could be privatised in a future parliamentary term.
Mr Key appeared annoyed on Thursday morning when reporters pressed him on the issue during a visit to the Waimakariri electorate.
He repeated his promise KiwiBank would never be sold.
But just moments later the Prime Minister - in answer to a further question about KiwiBank - gave a less emphatic response.
He said again that National had promised not to sell any State assets this parliamentary term.
Later the Finance Minister, Bill English, said KiwiBank would not be sold but if National did decide to put it up for sale that proposal would be put to voters at a general election.
