Labour pledges to restore home help hours for elderly

Labour Party leader Phil Goff has told delegates at a Grey Power conference that he will restore the hours cut from home help if his party forms the next Government.

Grey Power says at least five district health boards have been contacting elderly people to reassess their support requirements, and have frequently scaled back their home help.

Mr Goff says it is important people are not forced into rest homes because they are not getting the help they need to stay at home.

He says the elderly are being targeted because the Government sees them as a group that will not exert political pressure.
