Survey suggests pay cut for top politicians

A survey suggests top politicians should have their pay cut because they do not deserve their salaries.

The survey by Massey University researchers questioned more than 900 people over the age of 18 on a range of topics including income and tax.

Those surveyed thought Cabinet Ministers earn far too much. They believed Cabinet Ministers earn $175,000 a year, which should be knocked back to $135,000.

In fact, Cabinet Ministers earn just under $250,000.

The survey of attitudes towards social inequality was carried out between July and November last year and has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
