Big merger savings an illusion, says association

The Public Service Association has warned the Government that the planned merger of some state sector agencies will not lead to big savings.

Cabinet is considering merging merging the National Library and National Archives into the Department of Internal Affairs and combining the Foundation for Research, Science & Technology and the Ministry of Research, Science & Technology.

Prime Minister John Key says one of the main reasons for the proposed mergers is to save money.

But association national secretary Brenda Pilott says there will be no significant savings because the agencies involved aren't big enough.
