The Youth Justice Advisory Group is calling for swift intervention to stop a rise in knife crime.
Justice Minister Simon Power has ordered a report on the laws surrounding knife crimes after a High Court judge said it could be time for Parliament to look at strengthening them.
Recorded incidents of people using a weapon for stabbing or cutting a victim have increased by 35 incidents per year since 1995.
Group member Ian Lambie, says a combination of anti-social behaviour and alcohol is to blame.
Mr Power says he expects to have a report back from officials by the end of the month.
