The Government is considering making separate funding available in next year's Budget for Maori service providers working with families.
The whanau ora project is a key objective of the Maori Party. Its co-leader Pita Sharples says a lot of government money could be better delivered to Maori people through Maori agencies.
He says discussions are continuing between ministers on the possibility of a separate budget appropriation for whanau ora.
The Government set up a Whanau Ora Taskforce earlier this year to look at developing new policy in this area, and it's due to report back early next year.
