A new poll indicates Labour leader Phil Goff's race relations speech has struck a chord with voters.
The speech - delivered at the end of last month - was billed as being about "nationhood", but focussed on the Emissions Trading Scheme and the foreshore and seabed issue.
A TV3 News poll released on Sunday shows Mr Goff's rating as preferred prime minister has risen three points to 8%.
The Labour Party's popularity also improved, rising more than three points to 30.8%.
Prime Minister John Key's popularity fell by almost 6% to 49.9%.
And the number of people who think Mr Key is performing well also dropped by 9.4% to almost 73%.
The poll has a margin of error of 3.4%.
