Seminar not in breach of State Services rules

A seminar organised by Work and Income and National MP Paul Quinn has been found not to be in breach of State Services guidelines.

The seminar, held on Monday, looked at work opportunities for young people in the Hutt Valley.

Labour MP Grant Robertson complained to the State Services Commissioner about the seminar, claiming it breached political neutrality because it was using Work and Income to promote National Party policies.

An investigation by the Ministry of Social Development found the seminar was not politically motivated.

However, it did find some errors in the way Work and Income prepared for the meeting, saying it should not have included the words "in association with Work and Income" in the advertising flyer.

Mr Quinn said the seminar sought to bring together community groups and employees to provide opportunities for youth in the region and he asked Work and Income not to attend the meeting.
