The union representing retail workers says it will strongly oppose any efforts to change the Easter trading rules.
A new bill to liberalise Easter trading was drawn from the ballot at Parliament on Thursday.
Robert Reid of the National Distribution Union says details of the bill are unclear, but with only three and a half shopping-free days each year, there's no need to change the present law.
He says this bill is similar to several others in the past decade which have been defeated after workers, their unions, churches and communities have made submissions opposing increased trading hours at Easter.
Mr Reid says the union will once again start lobbying all MPs to oppose the bill.
