Kaipara disadvantaged by boundary change - mayor

Kaipara District Council says it will have been completely ignored by the Government if speculation about boundary changes for the Auckland super-city is correct.

Auckland Regional Council believes there are plans to cut Rodney District to the north in two, with part coming under the Kaipara district and northern councils.

The regional council says that would mean a major and secret change. The Mayor of Rodney Penny Webster says it would be the worst possible decision.

Kaipara Mayor Neil Tiller fears the region would be disadvantaged by a boundary change.

He says having areas such as Warkworth included in the district would be foreign to the council.
