Labour MP David Shearer sworn in at Parliament

Labour's newest MP David Shearer has been sworn in at Parliament.

Mr Shearer won the Mt Albert by-election in June with a majority of 9718 votes.

He read out an affirmation in Parliament on Tuesday formally marking the start of his new political career.

Afterwards, Mr Shearer shook hands with Prime Minister John Key and National MP Melissa Lee who came second in the by-election called to replace Helen Clark.
