Corrections Minister Judith Collins has expressed confidence in her chief executive, Barry Matthews.
In March, Ms Collins refused to express direct confidence in Mr Matthews, following the release of a State Services Commission report that he should not be dismissed over shortcomings in parole management.
Ms Collins told the Law and Order Select Committee on Wednesday Mr Matthews had been doing a very good job improving Corrections.
She said greater compliance of high-risk offenders on parole and new training and safety measures for 3500 staff were a credit to him.
