Parmjeet Parmar to contest Mt Roskill for National

National Party list MP Parmjeet Parmar has been chosen by her party to contest the Mt Roskill by-election.

Dr Parmar entered Parliament in 2014 on the list after losing the Mt Roskill electorate race to Phil Goff, who resigned from Parliament last week after winning the Auckland mayoralty.

She said Mt Roskill was an area she was passionate about because it reflected the best about Auckland and New Zealand.

"It's full of diverse families who care about one another and work hard. There are a huge range of businesses, large and small, providing job opportunities for people from right across the city," Dr Parmar said.

The by-election to replace Mr Goff will be held on 3 December.

Michael Wood will contest the seat for Labour.

Phil Goff won the seat in 2014 about 8000 votes ahead of Dr Parmar.
