Corrections Minister Judith Collins' comments followed the release of the report into fight clubs operating at Mt Eden Prison while it was run by the company, Serco.

Ms Collins told TV3's The Nation the fact that Serco was rated at the top of prison performance charts made a mockery of the monitoring system.

"This is the first report that's actually been released in full," she said.

"Now, I understand that there are issues around security and privacy and they can be taken care of.

"But I'd actually like to have more transparency."

She said it was time for the department to publish its reports on monitoring at prisons.

She had been talking to the State Services Commission about ways of getting the Department to be more open, she said.
