Recession presents major challenges - Key

2:27 pm on 26 February 2009

Prime Minister John Key says rising unemployment is the major issue facing New Zealand as his Government marks 100 days in power.

The National Party campaigned on a 27-point action plan for its first 100 days in office, which ends on Thursday.

Mr Key says it has delivered on that plan, and the Government is "travelling well."

But he says the recession presents major economic and political challenges.

Mr Key says unemployment is the issue that matters to the public, because job losses affect people at a personal level.

He says the Government's role is to preserve as many jobs as it can, and while people don't expect miracles, they do expect leadership.
