Govt keeping options open on Super Fund

5:27 am on 24 February 2009

The Government appears to be keeping its options open over the future management of the Superannuation Fund.

Prime Minister John Key was asked to respond to a suggestion that annual payments of $2 billion into the fund be suspended, rather than borrowing money to put into a fund that's performing poorly.

Mr Key says he expects super contributions will be in the Budget this year, and at present, the Government is committed to the scheme.

He says there's been no formal Cabinet discussion about a suggestion of suspending payments.

However, Radio New Zealand political staff say Mr Key declined to state there would be no changes to the scheme in the future.
