Support for National falls in two polls

10:32 pm on 17 August 2014

Support for the National Party has fallen in two television polls out tonight but it's still at or close to 50 percent.

National got 50 percent in the One News-Colmar Brunton poll and 47.5 in the 3 News-Reid Research poll.

Labour's support fell to 26 percent in the One News poll but rose to 29 percent in the 3 News poll.

Labour leader David Cunliffe is refusing to be worried by new polls showing volatile support for his party.

Mr Cunliffe said most polls showed support for Labour was growing and that in general the party was making progress.

The Green Party scored 11 and 13 percent respectively, while New Zealand First was at or close to 5 percent.

National retains a strong lead over its challengers but that lead has narrowed.

Both polls surveyed about 1000 people and have margins of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
