Independent MP Brendan Horan is confident he will get his new political party off the ground despite still being the focus of a police investigation.

Mr Horan launched the New Zealand Independent Coalition in Tauranga on Tuesday and is working to attract voters with the slogan 'safe children, safe whanau, safe society'.
The party's policies include boosting pensions, having zero student fees and making a Ministry of Job Creation.
The MP said his party would let voters electorates decide how their local MP votes on legislation.
"This isn't something new and I think once New Zealanders get the idea of what we're trying to achieve, in actually just giving New Zealanders a real voice, I think it's going to become pretty special."
In 2012, Mr Horan was expelled from New Zealand First over allegations that he stole money from his late mother's estate, which he denies.
The MP is adamant he will not be charged in relation to that matter and said his party would make it into parliament. He plans to stand in the Bay of Plenty seat.
