National releases party list

11:52 am on 27 July 2014

The National Party has just released its party list for the September election, largely retaining sitting Ministers and MPs at their current rankings.

After Prime Minister John Key and his deputy Bill English, the top rankings go to Speaker David Carter, Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee, Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce and Justice Minister Judith Collins.

The highest ranked person who is not a sitting MP is Ohariu candidate Brett Hudson, who is ranked 39th.

Also on the list are the mayor of Palmerston North, Jono Naylor and the former Mayor of Westland, Maureen Pugh.

National Party president Peter Goodfellow said if National can match its result at the last election in 2011, it would bring in 13 new MPs, with 46 returning MPs.

He said the list had the right mix of people for renewal and stability in a third term.
