Tomorrow's Schools review pledged

The Labour Party says it will review the system of self-governing schools introduced 25 years ago if it leads the next government.

In its full education policy released on Thursday, it says it will set up an independent taskforce to consider the system introduced by the Tomorrow's Schools reforms.

The changes brought in boards of elected trustees to govern schools, and reduced government control of schools.

Labour says the benefits of the reforms have run their course and there is a risk of stagnation.

The general election will be held on 20 September.
