The ACT Party board has elected former MP Kenneth Wang as the party's new deputy leader.

Leader Jamie Whyte says the party now has New Zealand's best known and most popular Chinese politician on its team.

Mr Whyte said it is no secret that ACT has been lobbied by the Chinese community to elect Mr Wang, and that Auckland Chinese have told the party he is a proven vote-winner.

Mr Wang entered Parliament as an ACT list MP to replace Donna Awatere Huata in 2004, but was not returned to Parliament in the general election the following year.
