Labour might rely on National over future mining legislation

Labour concedes it might rely on support from National over mining legislation in any future Labour-led government.

The mining and energy lobby group Straterra on Tuesday night wooed both parties at a function in Parliament's Grand Hall, seeking political support for the $2 billion a year industry.

Andrew Little MP represented the Labour Party, and said it strongly supports the industry, provided health and safety standards are high.

He said if the Green Party, its prospective coalition partner, refused to agree to pro-mining legislation, a Labour-led government could end up depending on National.
