Bill English says the Government will review the law governing the commission's powers to regulate the telecommunications and electricity industries.

In November this year, the commission ruled that Chorus must lower the price for access to its copper network - which the telecommunications infrastructure company says could threaten the Government's ultra-fast broadband rollout.

Mr English says that decision is part of the reason for the review. He couldn't give details of the review, but says he wants to ensure that there is certainty for investors.

Mr Dunne says it makes sense to do a fit-for-purpose type review - but any limiting of the commission's autonomy would be poor public policy.
