Broadcaster Shane Taurima has confirmed he wants to stand for the Labour Party in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election.
The seat has been vacant following the death of Labour MP Parekura Horomia on 29 April.
Mr Taurima, currently the general manager of Maori and Pacific programmes at Television New Zealand, is of Ngati Kahungunu and Rongomaiwahine descent and a member of the Ratana Church.
Hastings District Councillor Henare O'Keefe and Meka Whairiti, chief executive of Ngati Kahungunu, have also put their names forward to stand for Labour.
The party will select its candidate on Sunday, while the Mana Party will announce its candidate on Wednesday.
The Maori Party's candidate is Na Raihania.
The by-election will be held on 29 June.
