MPs spending less each year

The amount MPs spend on travel and accommodation steadily dropped throughout 2012.

MPs' expenses have been made public since 2009.

Spending dropped from $1,930,686 in early 2012 to $1,633,088 in the latest declaration.

The latest figures cover the period from October to the end of December last year.

In the last quarter of 2011, which covered the election campaign, MPs' spending on expenses was three times more - $3,153,680.
