The governments of Samoa and Australia have signed three deals focusing on policing and cybersecurity this week.

In a statement, the Australian High Commission in Samoa said Samoan Prime Minister La'aulialemalietoa (Laauli) Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong signed the agreements "to bolster shared work towards a shared and thriving Blue Pacific".

The three memorandums of understanding signed are on policing initiatives, Pacific policing deployment, and digital resilience and cybersecurity.

The policing-related MOUs are a result of the decisions made by the Pacific Islands Forum leaders, the Australian High Commission said.

It said the MOUs will advance regional policing cooperation and enable practical support between Pacific countries when assistance is requested.

While in Apia, Wong will attend a topping out ceremony for the Australian-funded Legislative Assembly Office on Wednesday.

"This is an opportunity to mark a key milestone in the construction of the building, which is the placement of the roof structure."

Wong will then head to Savaii aboard the Nafanua III to open the Samoa Police Tuasivi Maritime Office, the Australian High Commission said.
