Nauru is to go the polls on August 24th.
The Nauru Electoral Commission made the announcement on Monday, following the final day of parliament on Friday.
At the final sitting President Baron Waqa launched into a tirade about foreign media, including RNZ Pacific, claiming they were out to give Nauru a bad name, and asking what could be done about it.

Foreign media has upset the Waqa government for years, by questioning the treatment of refugees and the group of anti-government protestors dubbed the Nauru 19.
For many years requests for information or input made to the Waqa government by RNZ Pacific have been ignored.
