Fiji's Sodelpa Youth Council is continuing to push for a referendum to allow the public to vote on whether Fiji should change its national flag.
The National Flag Protecton Bill was passed this week, with the law seeking to provide a declaration for a new Fijian national flag, and set out rules for how the flag cannot be misused.
The Sodelpa Youth have already submitted a number of petitions to parliament on the issue, including a 2,000 person petition asking that a referendum on the flag be considered.
It's president, Peter Waqavonovono, says he's in the process of writing to the Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, to ask him to put the issue of a new flag to a referendum.
"This is all about making sure that our democracy stays, in order to protect our democracy, we're caught between this referendum, or just allowing the Prime Minister to just force his hand without allowing the will of the people."
In June this year, a Tebbutt poll for the Fiji Times found at least 86 percent of Fijians would prefer to vote on whether the flag should be changed.
In July, Mr Bainimarama told parliament there will be no referendum on whether Fiji should change the flag.
