The outlook for a natural world heritage area in Solomon Islands is critical according to a new report by a conservation agency.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature has made an assessment of the world's 228 sites and found East Rennell to be among 8 percent of sites which are critically endangered.
East Rennell is the world's largest raised coral atoll with a dense forest canopy that has been likened to a natural laboratory for scientific study.
Last year East Rennell was inscribed on a list of endangered sites by UNESCO because of the effect of logging on the island's ecosystem.
