Julian Moti's lawyer files court injunction against extradition to Australia

11:50 am on 27 December 2007

The fugitive Australian lawyer, Julian Moti, has started the battle against being extradited to Australia.

A court injunction was filed late yesterday evening in Honiara by Mr Moti's lawyers against the Police and Immigration Ministers.

The application is asking the High Court of Solomon Islands to stay the proceedings to extradite Julian Moti in the next day as planned by the newly elected Sikua government.

The Permanent Secretary to the Department of Immigration, Jeffrey Wickham says immigration authorities are now closely monitoring Mr Moti's movements.

However if Julian Moti's lawyers are successful, he may not be on the flight tomorrow to Australia.
