A limited edition $5 coin has been released to raise money for efforts to save the fairy tern.
Just 43 fairy terns are in existence, all living on the Northland peninsula.
New Zealand Post has released on Trade Me limited sets of the coin which picture the tiny bird.
They will be auctioned for a reserve of $39 for a single coin to $185 for a set.
Proceeds go to the New Zealand Fairy Tern Charitable Trust.
