7:23 am on 19 February 2012

New Zealand and Japan have negotiated new air services arrangements.

Limits on operations to and through airports in Japan outside of the Tokyo region have been removed for New Zealand airlines.

Reciprocal rights will be available to Japanese airlines.

From next year, New Zealand airlines will have the right to operate a daily service to Narita airport and an understanding has been reached on the possible future use of Haneda airport.

Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee says new arrangements have also been reached on tariffs regulation and aviation safety and security.
