An elderly woman died in a Christchurch house fire on Tuesday evening.
A spokesperson for the fire service says the blaze was well underway when they arrived at about 6pm.
The woman's body was discovered after the fire was put out.
It is believed the fire started in the kitchen and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
