Heavy snow and freezing conditions in Europe has caused major problems for travellers, shutting many major transport hubs.

London's Heathrow Airport says about 30% of its flights have been affected.

Hundreds of Air New Zealand and Qantas passengers have been affected on Sunday.

Air New Zealand says about 250 passengers due to depart London on NZ38 had their flight delayed, while hundreds of passengers transiting in Hong Kong enroute to London have been held up overnight.

A spokesperson for Qantas says three of its flights from London have been delayed.
