Kapiti airport boosts security

2:33 pm on 20 January 2012

Kapiti Coast Airport has installed security cameras following an aeroplane break-in which led to flights being cancelled in early December.

An Air New Zealand aircraft's rear emergency exit was opened and an emergency shute was opened.

The airport's chief executive, Steve Booten, says more lighting has been added and security cameras installed.

Mr Booten says the cameras have been operating since the beginning of January and would-be trespassers will not be tolerated.

A long term project is underway to build a 2m high security fence around part of the airport's 4km perimeter.
