More heavy rain is forecast for Golden Bay which is still recovering from December's floods and land slips.
Nelson-Tasman Civil Defence says 100mm of rain is expected in the 24 hours from midnight on Thursday, particularly west of Motueka.
In Golden Bay, a burst of 30mm to 40mm is forecast.
Severe northerly gales are also forecast for Tasman and Nelson.
