Residents and holidaymakers in Akaroa are being reminded that annual water restrictions have begun, as Christchurch City Council prepares for summer water shortages.
During the holiday season, Akaroa's population of about 600 grows to an estimated 3,200 people, which puts pressure on the water supply.
The council's city environment general manager, Jane Parfitt, says people are being asked to start conserving water now.
The restrictions, which began on Saturday, mean people with odd-numbered street addresses can water their gardens on odd-numbered days of the month and vice-versa.
