A last-minute bid to challenge rules that will limit the imported cars allowed into the country has failed.
The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association wanted a judicial review of emissions standards, due to come into force from January, placing restrictions on the sale of used cars.
The association says it was promised a review of broader emissions rules.
It says the latest phase will see car prices soar, as fewer cars come into the country.
However, the High Court in Wellington has dismissed the judicial review application, saying reviews of the rules have taken place and submissions from the association have been considered.
