Man hit by train at Auckland station

A man has survived being struck by a goods train in South Auckland.

Police say the man was at Manurewa train station just before 4am on Wednesday when he was hit.

They say the driver realised what had happened and took about 70 metres to stop the train.

The man was lodged between a carriage and the platform when police and ambulance officers arrived.

He was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition.
