Police have named a 57-year-old Hamilton man who died after a water skiiing accident during an organised event on Lake Taupo on Saturday.
They say Cornelius Van Deursen was taking part in a speed skiing event on the lake.
A police investigation is under way to determine what happened.
Senior Sergeant Tony Jeurissen says police were called to the Three Mile Bay boat ramp at Wharewaka Point at about 11 o'clock on Saturday morning.
He says the man, who was taken to Taupo Hospital, died later that afternoon.
