Some Auckland residents are unhappy that people may have to pay to park in the suburb of St Mary's Bay, dismissing it as a council revenue-gathering exercise.
Auckland Transport is soon to begin public consultation on a proposal to create a residential parking zone in the area.
It says the proposal has been prompted by numerous complaints from St Mary's Bay residents about limited parking because commuters take the spaces.
They say residents have also complained about blocked driveways and traffic congestion during peak hours.
But one resident, Tony Gavigan, says the proposed parking zone is a band-aid solution that will only hit residents in the pocket.
And Allen Anderson says he often parks in St Mary's Bay and won't be happy to pay.
The proposed residential parking zone would create a blanket two-hour restriction from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
Residents would be able to buy annual and short-term permits allowing them and their visitors to park in the area.
Consultation begins on Monday and runs for four weeks.
