Bail has been refused for two men accused of being involved in a gang fight in Dunedin.

A man was shot in the arm during the confrontation in Pinehill between Mongrel Mob and Black Power members on Sunday. Eight gang members were arrested.

Daniel Moana Ryan, 45, appeared in Dunedin District Court on Tuesday charged with unlawful assembly and intent to cause violence.

Tyrone Kamal Henare, 19, is charged with disorder likely to incite violence.

Police opposed bail for both men on grounds they could intimidate witnesses and they were remanded in custody until Thursday.

Armed police were at the court.
