A worker has been seriously injured after two trains collided while shunting in Dunedin.
Police say the 29-year-old man was driving one train from the outside front when they collided near the Railway Station about 5pm on Tuesday.
The man had his leg crushed and was being treated at Dunedin Hospital.
Police say the trains were not moving fast and no one else was injured.
KiwiRail chief executive Jim Quinn says the worker was where he was supposed to be and did not do anything wrong.
[image:3119:full]KiwiRail has begun an investigation to find out what happened.
The Department of Labour and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission are investigating, and a decision on whether a full inquiry is needed will be made later this week.
