Lake search for missing men continues

2:52 pm on 4 September 2011

Police and volunteers were continuing to search for two Waikato fishermen a week after they failed to return from a trip on Lake Arapuni.

The men, aged 21 and 45, have not been seen since setting off in their boat from Jones Landing at the northern end of the lake on Sunday 28 August.

They were reported missing on the Wednesday, when a dog belonging to one of the men returned home.

Tokoroa sports fishing club president Butch Bisley has been searching Lake Arapuni with three other volunteers.

On Friday, they found a rope and a spool from a fishing line in a small bay, as well as dog footprints.

Mr Bisley says it is difficult to know what might have happened to the men because Lake Arapuni is mostly always calm.
