Waistcoat offered for sale

9:58 pm on 31 August 2011

A waistcoat that may have belonged to Captain James Cook will be offered for sale by auction in Auckland next week.

The embroidered white silk piece is reliably dated to the 18th century and almost certainly belonged to a Cook family, but whether it belonged to the explorer himself is a matter of contention.

Potential bidders will need to make their own minds up before it goes under the hammer on 8 September.
