A coroner has closed the case of an Air Force sergeant killed by an exploding artillery shell.
Flight Sergeant Andrew Forster, 46, died instantly when the shell exploded at Waiouru military camp in November 2009.
A Defence Force Court of Inquiry last year found procedures for marking unexploded ammunition were not strictly followed. However, the court was unable to determine the exact reason for the explosion.
Coroner Tim Scott has decided not to hold an inquest, saying the Army and Sergeant Forster's family agree with that.
Mr Scott says he does not believe a hearing would give more certainty about the exact reason for the explosion or achieve a different outcome to the court of inquiry.
