A group of 11 and 12 year old students is stranded on Mount Ruapehu.
Eight adults and 16 students from Berkley Normal Middle School went up the mountain on Sunday for a ski trip - with plans to stay for one night at the Hadlock Ski Club hut.
Supervisor David Ray says when the road down was too icy to safely navigate on Monday morning and the major highways were closed.
He says they are prepared to stay for another night if need be.
