A member of the Maori Trademarks Advisory Committee says he thinks it is appropriate that a t-shirt made for English rugby fans incorporates Maori designs.
The shirt made by Nike ahead of the Rugby World Cup bears the English Rose inlaid with motifs and designs from traditional Maori artwork.
Committee member Dr Pare Keiha says while some Maori may find the shirt offensive, he thinks it is appropriate for the Rugby World Cup.
"English fans might be purchasing such a shirt in order to both celebrate their English identity, but more importantly to appropriate for a short period of time something that might be a derivative of Maori art."
