Four rowers will attempt to become the first team to row the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand and around Cape Reinga.
They plan to row 2500km from Sydney Harbour Bridge to Auckland Harbour Bridge.
The trip is likely to start in October and could take three weeks to three months, depending on the weather.
Team captain Nigel Cherrie said in Hamilton on Friday that the crew are motivated by the challenge to become the first team to achieve the feat.
The crew have been training for more than a year.
